Merritt A. Cole, counsel in our Business Law Department, spoke at an event hosted by the Business Law Society of the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law on November 4, 2019. His topic was “An Introduction to Securities Law for the Business Law Attorney – Practical Considerations.” Mr. Cole addressed the application of securities law in a number of contexts, including venture capital and other capital raising transactions, executive compensation, corporate governance and insider trading. He also discussed why it is important for business law attorneys in other fields of practice to be familiar with the basic concepts of securities law, particularly attorneys who practice M&A, real estate, banking and employment law, or who are commercial litigators.
